Daum Kakao strives to reinforce mobile game platform business

"Daum" is Korean portal site, and "Kakao Talk" is the messenger app that most Korean people use instead of mobile text. Daum merged Kakao Talk and became "Daum Kakao" last year.

The operator of the nation's most sought-after mobile instant messenger KakaoTalk launched a mobile game platform called "KakaoGame" in 2012. Since then, the company has been a dominating mobile game platform operator by successfully publishing mobile games such as Anipang by Sundaytoz, Wind Runner by WeMade Entertainment and Everyone's Marble by Netmarble Games in the local market.

Daum Kakao has launched a new mobile game platform service which allows game companies to distribute their games through the web, without having to pay commission to Google's Play app.
The move is expected to lower Daum Kakao's dependence on Google Play and help the company attract and retain promising mobile games on its platform service.
