Unreal decides to make Unreal Engine 4 free to use. This might be a significant step forward for independent software development. Epic game's recent decision to add a generous environmental asset pack to the free engine.
Unreal Engine 4 was made free to use in early March 2015, when Unreal gave up its longstanding subscription model. The Unreal Engine 4 users now instead pay a five percent royalty, which kicks in after the first in revenue for each quater of a projectis fiscal year. The certian areas such as consulting, architecture, simulation are exempt from this royalty.
Moreover, Epic Games has already made a free animation package available to Unreal Engine 4 users, as well as, a technical demo, "Scifi Hallway".
