Platformer Tutorial Level:NEW SUPER MARIO BROS 2 3DS



  • How does the level layout contribute to the tutorial?

  • The level layout contains how to jump outs to get items and scores, which make easy to the players understand basic movements of the game. Moreover, there are many ways to defeat the enemies, and this level layout show some cases.




  • How is the pacing and flow managed to keep the player challenged but not bored?

  • The level itself is quite easy, but this game is well balanced and its flow which make the players keep interested. 

  • How much is left to the player to figure out on his own vs. how much is handed to him?

  • In the "basic" level, the level layout contains most of the information (around 90%), only excluded special items and special hidden stages. 

  • What kind of obstacles are presented to the player?

  • There are enemies that comes out unexpectedly, hidden ways, the cliffs and difficult jumps.


  • How do they ramp up the difficulty as the tutorial advances?

  • As the players follow up the tutorial maps, the play can naturally pick up the basic skills such as jumps and avoiding the enemies without stress.

  • What kind of positive and negative feedback is given to the player?

  • The game is quite well balanced, thus there is no negative feedback.This level layout shows positive interest of the game.  

  • How is the story integrated (if any)?


  • The basic story is the hero's journey to save the princess from the enemy, and every levels show the flows of the journey.
